Small Ball has been personally designed by Sherwin Vasallo. Starting out as a virtual unknown in his local basketball community, he miraculously walked onto the University Men’s basketball team despite being only 5’7”. Sherwin actively competed for 4 years against the best in the nation, earning recognition as top 10 in steals in the nation.

The Small Ball training program was born in 1997 when I first started playing. I knew I had to be able to compete with ballers that were 6’3” to 7’0”. But how? What I lacked in height, I made up for it in strength, speed, quickness, and heart. I was determined to make an impact whenever I stepped onto the floor in every way possible. My training regimen allowed me to compete for 4 years at the University level.

As an undersized player I have come to understand what is needed to excel at the University level. With my program you will learn to be stronger, faster, smarter.

Sherwin Vasallo is the owner and operator of Acceleration Performance, Total Rehabilition and Sports Injuries Clinic, and Acceleration Fitness Centre.

Phase 1 – Groundwork (4 Weeks)

The objective of this program is to introduce you to the exercises that lay down the foundation for intense physical training in the following phases. Prepare to improve your joint mobility, enhance your muscle flexibility, and increase muscular endurance.

Phase 2 – Optimization (8 weeks)

This phase will take 8 weeks to complete and will be progressively challenging as the weeks go by. The main objective is to optimize functional strength, improve tendon quality and performance, introduce simulated basketball movement patterns, enhance power (vertical and speed development) as well as prepare your cardiovascular conditioning for basketball gameplay.

For those that have training facility access, the original Small Ball program is for you. Full equipment access is needed to do the exercises. This includes items such as barbells, dumbbells, kettlebell, turf, and more. The specificity of equipment isn’t top priority. We have programmed alternative exercises to achieve the same movement results.

Some of you will not have access to a weight room, so the Anywhere program is best for you. It requires little to no equipment which means you can do it anywhere,  anytime. Think; home, playground, open field, it doesn’t matter. Train wherever you can and start feeling the difference in your strength and power development.
